I opted for Champion reverse. My bud is on his third reverse motor on a 09 trike. I never used my reverse since I bought an 09 used in 5/13. Had an 08 Ultra with a hack and never seen the need for reverse, my wife was reverse. Old age creeps in quickly so I relented to the Champion unit with the urging of my wife. It's a godsend in the right situation and at a little over $1800 installed should be once and done. Works real slick.

++ on the mechanical reverse if the electric reverse goes on my TG. I currently have the MotorTrike's reverse on my SG. I am 62 and too old pushing the bike backward. I have not used it too often, but it is there if I need it. I went with the MotorTrike over the Champion, since MotorTrike has a kill switch that kills the engine if you happen to have the tranny in reverse and 1st gear at the same time.

Gee, see these motors are like 1400 bucks if I remember correctly.
Well it is nine years later and HD hasn't done anything about these failures. For the most part the failure is caused by the brushes which supply power to the motor swell up inside their housing and stick losing contact. I just replaced the brushes on my 2019 Triglide that failed 10 days out of warranty. The replacement brush kit is $20 delivered and is about a 3 hour job. You can replace the brushes without removing the motor. You need to remove the body, 8 bolts and about half a dozen connectors. There are You-tube videos for all of this. HD wanted $340 for a repair kit and $1,600 for a new motor which does not include labor. Brushless motors became readily available in 1982. Got to be some reason why HD doesn't use them.

Body removed.

Reverse motor. Brushes are under the black cap.

The stuck brushes. Notice how short they are compared to the other two.

Off of eBay. Delivered in 3 days.

Off of eBay. Actually there was a discount and it was $20 delivered. Said 4 day delivery but got them in 2.
