Since first making a spacer to fix the missing snap ring that is to keep the rear belt pulley in place so I could make a long trip, I pulled diff. out again and cut down the surface that the belt sprocket bearing rides on as it had bad wear and made a steel sleeve on a good lathe to press on it . Then made a steel spacer between it and the outer bearing. Along with replacing the rubber compensators, I put .010 crush on the compensators. I have ridden it another 6,000 miles with no problems. And no you don't have to remove body to pull diff. just loosen belt adjusters and slide diff. out after removing starter and axles. About a 3-4 hour job with re-aligning and adjusting belt.

83331-09A for $1.99 on a website base out of Mass. I started reading this thread since my pulley is moving about 1/4" between the reverse gear ring and the left side of the housing. Lost of rub marks on the left flat face of the pulley where it must be rubbing against the housing. I just finished rebuilding the top end after the rear head gasket blew out. Now this...
