Stage III on my 2018 Trike Ultra

So I have the Stage III Kit paid for and waiting for for the weather to allow me to get the Trike to H.D. in Boise. I already have Stage II with the Torque Cam. My question is I think the Torque Cam 447 would be better for the Trike with two people on board most of the time, plus gear. The Shop Service Manager guy insists the 498 power cam is the Best Choice. I don't ride at 4000 rpm to Redline.....It seems to me the Torque Cam would be a better choice. Looking at the Screaming Eagle Catalog Torque Curves....The 498 looks pretty good but.....I would like to hear from any who have the 447 or the 498 Cam.

I have an '18 and so far I've only out a bit over 1100 miles on it and I have a Stage 1 kit on order.
IMHO, I may someday upgrade to a cam that produces more torque but that's about as much as I would do to a trike.
When I had my UC T/C88, I upgraded it to a "95" Big Bore kit and the torque was worth every cent I paid for it but I soon discovered that I was simply driving faster on the highway and using more fuel.

Your trike, your money.

Just an aside I installed a Stage III in my 2009 FXDC and did not lose Milage but gained a ton of low-end torque. I did not just drive faster more responsively YES.
The Trike Ultra is so heavy when loaded or unloaded I think that is why 2019 came out with the 114 stock.....but I'm not sure which cam the 2019

has??? GARY

I also decided to go with the torque cam but only as stage 2, I had the same set up on my 2017 CVO Limited, it had the one year 114" motor but responded better than expected. The first year (2017) 114" had the 4.5" stroke, the stage 3 kit from the 107" has a 4.375" crank. I do not know why the engines respond differently other than the stroke length. The stage 3 kit for the 107"-114" has the 498 cam with it. I have heard that HD does not offer a torque cam for the tri glide because they don't have a tune for it, but we all know who does.

My suspicion (JMHO) is that due to the weight of the Tri-Glide, increasing the engine torque will put more stress on other components (trans, clutch and drive belt) which could lead to part(s) failure and therefore, warranty claims.

You might get it in writing on the warranty from MOCO themselves.
Reason being if Harley doesn't approve a part for a bike that part could cause a forfeit of the warranty.
GET IT IN WRITING !

Check it out with your Harley dealer. Then Call MOCO themselves."Asking for a friend". If you don't have any trouble with the engine, it likely would never come up. But anything major and the warranty people start trying to figure out a way it was caused by the parts you had installed. That being the key factor.
Voiding the warranty isn't something engraved in stone because most dealers aren't there trying to report everything they happen to see. But as far as MOCO is concerned a violation is just that, and then you have to prove that modification did not cause the problem. That is where the "Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act comes in to help you.
The whole point is if someone tells you your warranty isn't affected by a cam not approved by MOCO just make him put it in writing and be aware of possibilities.

A few restless nights thinking I may have voided my warranty using the torque cam in the 2019 tri glide. It was not listed as an approved kit in the SE manual as they were awaiting the EPA blessing. The moco now list the torque cam for the 19. I also see a new extreme ventilator/cover for the M8, #29400396 and #61300993, good looking and as usual not cheap. About $370.00 for both, probably now mid priced as air cleaner kits go.

The 2019 114" Is using the same stock cam as the 107" from 2017 on.
