Default 2012 103 cam shoe wear

Doing cams in my 2012 flstc, with the 103. My primary tensioner shoe looks like hell. I'm going to replace the tensioner assembly. Bike has 41k miles, is this excessive wear for mileage, or normal? The secondary shoe looks new.

Looks normal for that mileage.

I just replaced mine on the 07 Dyna. After 100,000 miles, that's what mine looked like. BUT it's cheap insurance to replace them.

With the roller chain, once the outer links groove like that, chain rolls. Wear ceases.

Old link chain wears on down.

I have rebuilt older Toyotas with hard rubber tensioners that had a groove like that with over 200K on them.

Since you are in there, replace them since they can get brittle and break. Really hot areas should replace them ever 10 year with a lot of miles on them.

I spent 46 building those toys you played with.. My ridding buddy lives in Grafton.

That shoe of yours just blew my theory of 100k with a roller chain. Did you hear that shoe hitting the piston part of the tensioner?

I thought that style of shoe was only on Harley's so called SE upgrade that leaves link chain system with one link chain. I have seen them look like that on a link chain in 20K.
