Motul Story and Twin Synthetic

Motul Story and Twin Synthetic
I wanted to do a thorough introduction to Motul as this statement above is rather common in the Harley world as we are just branching out to a dedicated Twin product line.
Motul was actually established as a part of a company named Swan-Finch that created high-performance oils and lubricants out of New York in 1853.
The company moved to France and gained a reputation in the automotive racing and motorcycle road racing series. Inspired by Motul’s 300 victories in competition and enabled by this semi-synthetic technology predecessor, the 300V was born in 1971, becoming the very first fully synthetic oil on the worldwide market.
The team in the US wanted to bring the lubrication technologies we use from racing to make a product specifically for the components in twin bikes, Harley Davidson being a primary consideration. These synthetic Twin oils have been developed with owners and race-tested in the American Flat Track series. The Motul Twin line is blended, bottled, and packaged in the US and includes a 20W50 motor oil, 75W90 gear oil, primary & chaincase oil, and gear & chaincase oil.
Our product is a true synthetic, using high-quality bases like Ester to decrease oil shearing and bond to the internal components of the engine to lubricate, even when the bike has been parked for extended periods.
We continually develop our formula and have a no-compromise approach to developing our products. I wanted to share a photo taken just this week of oil samples in the office of our product and some competitors from one of our motorcycle racing partners. Our technical team has a great relationship with our race teams and athletes to uses those resources to continually improve.
If you have any questions about Motul, the Twin line, general oil technology, or anything in between — please ask me. Here is some info on the Motul Twin products:

The packaging promotes our Ester (Group 5) base oil that is critical in some of the molecular polar bonding that occurs to cling to metal parts in the engine. As mentioned here, most oils that include a Group IV (PAO) or Group V (Ester) will advertise that fact as it is very expensive and easy to disprove. That said, each formula of Twin oil is composed of various blends and additives for their specific purpose.
Our 300V racing oil has a much higher density of Group V as it is formulated to be very very low friction for ultimate engine performance/power, as discussed on this Bob is The Oil Guy thread.
Our 300V oil is more expensive for that reason and is used for that specific racing purpose. To better deal with conditions specific to the Harleys, such as extreme heat, our blend of Ester bases are balanced with some high-quality Group III and additives that hold up to the extreme heat found in the air-cooled Twins without shearing. In the gear oil, the blend also helps with shock load and removes some of the hard shifts from neutral to first on cold starts. The Gear & CC oil for bikes like the Harley Sportsters have a formula that is designed to specifically increase grip for the wet clutches.
All that is to say, there is much in terms of additives (ZDDP, etc.) and blends to the oil that the specific base groups don't always tell. But we are proud to use the Group V Ester base is all of the Twin oil products, balanced for cost and purpose.
