Default Would you buy a warranty in this case?

I found an untitled 2008 VROD (night rod) with less than 10 miles on the clock, but out of warranty. Would you spend the money on a warranty at $1500 or there abouts?

Why would it be out of warranty if it's untitled?

Would the warranty have the same conditions as a new warranty, or would it have the conditions of the extended warranty? What do you plan to do to the bike?

The dealer said that due to the bikes model year the warranty has expired even though it's never been sold.!! It beats the heck out of me as well.

I'm just wondering if those of you who own the VROD have had any serious issues early on.
There is still an option to buy an extended provided it's done at time of sale (so I've been told). I understand it would cover the same issues that would be covered had the bike been bought and titled when it was brand new. The bike is for my son. He probably wouldn't do any engine mods. He'd just ride it.

I had some very minor stuff that the warranty took care of. The seals on both master cylinders went back (clutch and front b.), but those are "standard" HD parts, not specific to the VRSC.

Have had a couple small things happen recently, but I'm out of warranty by about six months now.

Personally I think the dealer is full of crap. Warranty typically starts from the purchase date not the when the bike was built or delivered to the dealer. He may just be trying to sell you an extended warranty. I would ask another dealer or call the MoCo to find out.

But overall I would say you definitely want a warranty on a new bike with only 10 miles. To many things can go wrong. I have heard of a couple guys that had oil pump problems and cooked an engine in the first 100 miles.

This.

Even if the dealer isn't totally full of crap, they can easily offer to throw in a warranty that THEY will honor for two years.

Yea I would as it's been sitting and Who knows what. They ,may have been just starting it and not riding it and all kinds of things. I would try to make the dealer cover it but if not I would still get it.

I would also contact the MoCo just to make sure that it's not included and they are not trying to cover some lost cost.

Warranties are based on "date of first use" meaning the day it is sold and titled. I'd find another dealer. The extended warranty isn't a bad idea IF you want it.
