Synthetic Vs Non - Synthetic?
Hi I just bought a 2003 Harley VRSCA V-Rod. So far I love this bike.I am wondering what oil should I run in my bike. The dealer I bought It from did not know what the prevous owner ran in it. He thought it was synthetic. I was wondering is synthetic worth the extra money? Also being that this bike is liquid cooled does it matter as much as other air cooled harleys? If I go with synthetic what should I use and which brand is the best bang for the buck? I normally change my oil every 2500 - 3500 miles on my old 2003 Triumph Sprint ST. Would synthetic last longer? How often do you guys go between changing oil? Any help would be great! Thanks.

This should get interesting...lol. This is about as controversial as using lemon Pledge.
I think synthetic is worth the extra money...especially in a higher revving engine like the V. I generally use AMSOIL. There are several good syn oils on the market and people usually have their reasons for the brand they use. I try to change oil between the major service intervals ~2,500 miles.

Oil in a V-Rod takes a hell of a beating because it's engine and transmission oil. Because of that, I use synthetic. Mobile 1 and AMSoil seem to be the best. I change it every 5k.
Edit: If you go ask this question on the V-Rod forums the vast majority will tell you to use AMSoil. There is even a guy there that sells it cheap and ships before you hang up the phone.

I have alway used synthetic in my street bikes, quads. I think it all justs adds up to a little extra insurance. I purchased my bike back in November and when it got to 1000 mile service I went with the synthetic HD oil. I could tell a difference right off the bat. The bike ran and shifted alot better. If you are like most of the vrod owners then you run the snot out of them. I think it just makes a believer out of me. The most popular oils for the vrod are Amsoil, Mobil 1, HD syn3. The choice is yours so good luck and enjoy.
