Throttle Stiff?

Hi all,

I just finally traded in my faithful 2006 Sportster XL1200R for a 2011 VRod Muscle. I am really pleased with the VRod, it has a Vance and Hines Destroyer replica 2:1 pipe and Dynojet Power Commander.

I have a problem with the throttle, the twist-grip is quite stiff, stiffer that others I have tried and I want to get it fixed. The dealer is a 320 mile round trip away so any ideas would be welcome please.

1. The throttle cables go through a tight bend on the V-Rod around the handle bar and fork yoke, has anyone tried re-routing the cables?
2. I think the cables are steel without a liner, so it should be OK to lubricate them, has nyoine tried this and what was the result please?

Thank you, stay safe.

Did you try the thumb screw?

Yep someone might have tightened the tumb screw up a little!

Thank you for the thumb screw suggestions, it is backed right off already. I reckon someone has re-routed the cables sometime and there is a kink where there shouldn't be.

It will loosen over time ,but with two throttle bodies its always going to be a little more resistant.

If you already checked out the screw, I suggest one more thing before messing with the throttle/cables...

Get on the right side of the bike.

Crouch down and trace the throttle cable down to just behind your radiator hose. At this point it will appear to be encased in a solid sheath.

Reach up with your right hand and twist to full throttle. (with the bike off obviously)

You may see the linkage rubbing on the inside upper portion of the hose. If it's happening, you'll see it. If that's the issue, let me know...
