Default V-Rod guys. Talk to me honestly

Old guy here. Almost 60 and been riding V twins of some make since forever. Thinking I want to add a performance, smaller, nimbler type bike and I love the V-Rod for a lot of reasons. I can tell you a ton about the EVO and twinkie, but I don't know jack about the Vrod.

Every bike has it's bad points. Is there a model year I should look out for and avoid? Defects that I should look at when I search? Be sure that it doesn't have _________Should I be sure and get a ____ or newer because of stuff that has been corrected???? (I.E. Magneti Mor EFI--been there)

Lots of great deals on older years. Is there a reason for that. They ALL seem to have low milage. Is there a reason for that?? (other than not being a touring friendly bike?)

All comments appreciated.

Thanks guys.

I would shop for an 07 or newer. The biggest reason for that is the 5 gallon gas tank. Also, the newer bikes went from 1130cc to 1250's. The only problem they've really had is the sending unit on the tank go's out and it's almost a $500.00 part. I've had 3 V rods. 02, 06 and a 12 muscle. All three bikes I put over a 100k total miles and the only thing that ever failed was that sending unit on my 06.

Thanks guys.
"Clamshell" riding position is not lower back friendly. At all.

I have a real nice '07 for sale, not a scratch on it, low miles and priced to sell. My reason for selling is that I don't ride much anymore and three grandkids take a lot of my time, which in my opinion is great. PM me if interested.

I tried to send a PM, but the forum says you don't receive PM's. Where are you located? (North of South is very vague)

I'm 74, 6'3" and 195 lbs. I have a 12 NRS and find it to be a very comfortable ride.

I do recommend going at least for the year that the 5 gallon tank was included.

As far as touring is concerned one can ride the world on a bicycle so there is no problem with any size or type of motorcycle. I have done 2K plus trips on Dyna's, Sportster's and Softail's. Next year for the trip to Sturgis and back, I am planning to take the Vrod. A lot of bungee cords and duffel bags will do just fine.

any 08 and newer is the best to get.
1)1250 cc Engine
2)Slipper Clutch
3)Larger capacity Battery
4)Optional ABS Brakes
5)Feedback Fuel Injection

I am in Charleston WV The bike is a Night Rod Special. I changed the bars to give it a more comfortable ride, also has a sundowner seat with passenger backrest. I am 69 years old and taken 500 mile daytrips with the wife.
