V-Rod guys. Talk to me honestly
Old guy here. Almost 60 and been riding V twins of some make since forever. Thinking I want to add a performance, smaller, nimbler type bike and I love the V-Rod for a lot of reasons. I can tell you a ton about the EVO and twinkie, but I don't know jack about the Vrod.
Every bike has it's bad points. Is there a model year I should look out for and avoid? Defects that I should look at when I search? Be sure that it doesn't have _________Should I be sure and get a ____ or newer because of stuff that has been corrected???? (I.E. Magneti Mor EFI--been there)
Lots of great deals on older years. Is there a reason for that. They ALL seem to have low milage. Is there a reason for that?? (other than not being a touring friendly bike?)
All comments appreciated.
Thanks guys.

I would shop for an 07 or newer. The biggest reason for that is the 5 gallon gas tank. Also, the newer bikes went from 1130cc to 1250's. The only problem they've really had is the sending unit on the tank go's out and it's almost a $500.00 part. I've had 3 V rods. 02, 06 and a 12 muscle. All three bikes I put over a 100k total miles and the only thing that ever failed was that sending unit on my 06.

I'm 74, 6'3" and 195 lbs. I have a 12 NRS and find it to be a very comfortable ride.
I do recommend going at least for the year that the 5 gallon tank was included.
As far as touring is concerned one can ride the world on a bicycle so there is no problem with any size or type of motorcycle. I have done 2K plus trips on Dyna's, Sportster's and Softail's. Next year for the trip to Sturgis and back, I am planning to take the Vrod. A lot of bungee cords and duffel bags will do just fine.
