New Member looking to learn to fix my own bike
Hello, Im a new member. I've been around Harleys for a while and just started riding two years ago. I have a 2001 XL1200C. Im located in San Diego Ca. Don't know many people around here who ride, let alone ride HD. I joined this website in hopes to learn how to fix my own bike when problems occur and gain general knowledge on motorcycles. I'm a college student so learning to fix my own bike would be much better than having to bring it to a shop and spend money I don't necessarily have. Another reason I joined is because today I was riding on the freeway and I went to exit and my bike would not shift from 5th to 4th. I would downshit and it would not go into 4th and felt like it was in neutral because the clutch would not grab. If I kept trying to downshift I would hear and feel this "grinding" noise. The problem is still there but sometimes when It wont downshift, If I give the shift lever a solid push down with my foot rather than a "tap" it will sometimes work. So hopefully this website can help with my issues. Here is a picture of my bike.
