First HD 09' FXDC
I've been riding for about 13 years or so and until now, have had all metric bikes. Started out on a 78 gs550, went to an 06 crb1000rr, got that out of my system quickly at 189mph I realized I wasn't going to live very long. Due to back injuries from earlier in life I moved onto sport touring bikes which I wont list, and currently still have a 16' M109R, and was just gifted an 02' Shadow Sabre 1100.
I had never considered a HD because of rumors about reliability issues from other friends that owned them. Then there's my buddy Glen who has over 200k miles on his 2007? Dyna wide glide. The bikes only recently had something small like a cam sensor replaced.. and dozens of tires of course. Never rebuilt, and even been wrecked last year by a truck that almost ran him over. This bike is that one in a million but combined with the gifted 02 Shadow which is clearly a rip-off of a Super Glide, made me realize I hate my M109R. It rides like the log flume at the water park, and no amount of skill can defeat the turning issues associated with the giant rear tire. You corner like a 53 footer, and there's no 2 ways about it.
I wanted a "standard motorcycle" and HD no longer makes them because naturally trends have changed and people want everything painted black and the bobber look etc.
I went to HD dealership while visiting in laws, explained to the salesman I wanted a classic looking bike that wasn't very old. He sent me to the used bike room, where I thought the bikes were ok but was ready to leave. He suddenly remembers that they just took an 09 dyna super glide with 5700 miles in on trade, and says he thinks it's going to be exactly what I'm looking for. Takes me out to the shop, I sit on the bike and said.. I need to leave before I impulse buy this thing. I came back the very next day, test rode the bike about 5 miles and took it home. I realized instantly upon seeing, hearing, and feeling that bike what I have been missing for 13 years.
Here's the bike, thanks for reading my short novel.. look forward to many miles of good times.
