Hello, I'm new here. Could use some help with a blinker install.

I bought a 2014 HD 48 (XL1200X), and it did not have blinkers on it, just a incandescent brake/tag light, so I bought a pack of 4 LED blinkers off of Ebay.

All four have Run-Brake-Turn functions. 3 wires on each light.

(front lights will not be wired into the brake light wires, but the rear lights will be) Obviously.

When I first got the lights I could only wire up the rear two because I had no way of mounting the front ones at the time. Once I got the rear blinkers wired up, the blinker and running lights worked fine. But the brake lights did not work on them.

Later on I got mounts for the front, so I wired them in, and nothing worked on them. So I started suspecting that I'd need some kind of relay/load resistor/diode to get the front ones working too. So I unwired the front ones. At this point the rear run & blinkers are still working fine, along with a incandescent brake light/tag light. Then I replaced the incandescent brake/tag light with an LED brake/tag light. Still worked fine for a few days. About 4 days after the new brake light install my friend was driving behind me and said the left running light was flickering. So when I got home I looked and it was still flickering, I came back to it the next day and the running light on the left side will not turn on.

Now the left side blinker only works for turn signals(same side the brake light is on), and the right side tail light still works on Run & Turn signal. I'm needing to know exactly what I need to buy & do in order to get my Run-Brake-Turn in the back working, as well as the Run-Turn up front.

Welcome to the HD Forums! This is the welcome section for new members. Please post your issue in the appropriate section for discussion. My first thoughts are to buy the electrical service manual. They are available at your local dealer, then you can troubleshoot the wiring.
Again Welcome!

G'day mate,

welcome to HDF.

I will be your tour guide. Be sure to read the manual before posting ok mate?

Or we will have discipline you and if you don't "get it" we will need to discipline you biker style.

Here is a gift for you… LOL! “I so funi!”

Now let’s get serious for your orientation. Go down the hall on your left to the 1st room. No, wait. The 1st room on your right. That is where the commissary is.

Then you will see doors marked for the mortuary, skeet shooting, a room where we make fun of In-Jun bikes, and of course we have a ahh, umm, oh yeah a across the hall.

We had a BOMB MAKING room but, well, ahhhhh, 1 of the guys just didn't understand Blasting Caps very well so..... you know.

We have our own pub .

There are several places where you can familiarize your self with the .

So don't be a wall flower watching others . Get involved.

See you around mate. I am going to the commissary now.

**** ON THE SERIOUS SIDE ****

**** I AM NOT ONE TO GIVE ADVICE ON HOW HDF WORKS BUT… ****
**** AND THE FOLLOWING IS UNOFFICIAL ****

You are in the “New Members Area” where you can introduce yourself and let us know what Harley Davidson bike(s) (if any) you ride/own.

If you have questions about engines, exhaust systems, audio issues, etc… then:

1) Please go to the upper corner and Roll Over “Forums”

2) Then come down to and Roll Over “Harley Davidson Tech & Mechanical Forum”

3) Then come down to the section that would be most appropriate for your question like Audio Systems, Engine Mechanical Topics, Exhaust System Topics, etc… and CLICK on the topic you have a question about.

You will find the knowledge here is EXCELLENT and these here mates are willing to help you in any way they can. ‘juss be careful. There are some “Trolls”, so I suggest just ignoring them ‘ole farts.

See you around HDF. Come often, we have a humor thread, game thread, and a LOT of other stuff.

Have A Great Day Mate,

BuzzCap7
