I'm new! Have a problem, though
Hey! Got an '09 Sporty, '19 Fat Boy, and '10 Tri-Glide, so I'll be on here often.
The problem is the Sportster. It's a 1200C. The bike is my first one, and I let it sit for a while with ethanol gas in it, which went bad, and it wouldn't start last year. So I took the fuel pump module out, and the sock was destroyed. Just turned to mush. Ended up buying a fuel pump kit off Amazon for $30 or so, and the instructions were terrible, but I got it installed. Then fuel was spraying everywhere when i hit the switch, due to bad tank/fuel line o-rings. Fixed that. Also put new plugs in. This was in the wintertime, and so I only was able to run the bike periodically. Didn't ride it. It started and idled better than ever. It stalled occasionally on idle when I got it, but after replacing all that stuff, it idled great without stalling. On to my problem....
Friday evening I got on the bike, started fine, but noticed it sputtering a little bit and I stalled it a couple times trying to take off. Got out on the road, and noticed it was skipping a little bit. Not so much under hard acceleration/WOT, but it was so bad cruising at 35-45 that I had to drop down a gear and keep my RPMs up. Rode it 140 miles to a friend's house, driving in the mountains and on a 65 MPH route for about an hour. It kept missing consistently. At times it missed so bad, I thought it might quit on me, but that was very brief. Stopped and filled up with high test shortly before showing up at his house.
Yesterday, my friend took it up and down the road, and took his wife and kids riding on it for a few minutes, and it sounded lopey at idle. Never stalled, but like it had a bigger cam. I could hear it missing a little as he took it down the road, esp. in 2nd and 3rd gear. The WOT bursts he did sounded okay.
I'm wondering if the pump I put in isn't up to par, or whether I should just get a couple injectors for it? My thought is to connect a fuel pressure gauge to it and see what pressure it's running at, but I don't know what the adaptor part number is. My gauge is an automotive type. What are your thoughts on what's happening based on the history and symptoms? Thanks. Steve P.
Update: Forgot to mention we took a long ride in the mountains on Saturday, about 90 miles, and it ran the same with him as it did with me. Never stalled, but did not run under light-moderate load very well.

If you have questions about engines, exhaust systems, audio issues, etc… then:
1) Please go to the upper corner and Roll Over “Forums”
2) Then come down to and Roll Over “Harley Davidson Tech & Mechanical Forum”
3) Then come down to the section that would be most appropriate for your question like Audio Systems, Engine Mechanical Topics, Exhaust System Topics, etc… and CLICK on the topic you have a question about.
You will find the knowledge here is EXCELLENT and these here mates are willing to help you in any way they can. ‘juss be careful. There are some “Trolls”, so I suggest just ignoring them ‘ole farts.
