Default Riding Dad's Bike(s) in His Honor, Need Help

Long story short: My dad passed away very unexpectedly. His favorite bike was a 2006 Softail Standard. He also had a 2011 Blackline. My mom really wants me to take the Standard (and possibly the Blackline) and ride them to honor him. The Standard has ~31,000 miles and the Blackline has ~6,800 miles.

Here's where I need help: I've never owned a Harley (did have a Buell for 4 years, though) and the Standard seems like it runs kinda rough. Also the ergos don't fit me at all.
  • What can I do to make sure the motor is running the way it's supposed to?
  • I need a comfortable seat that I can ride for long trips, what do you recommend? gel/air?
  • Need new bars, something like mini apes maybe. Will anything out there work with stock cables? Recommendations?

Any insider "Harley-guy" knowledge or tips for me?

Thanks in advance.

Take it to a dealer or a good indy and have it checked. Maybe just needs plugs or depending on how long it has set, could need gas replaced.
Sorry for your loss.

Welcome from Philadelphia. Sorry for your loss. Go to a Harley dealer they have test seats that you can try before you buy.
