That looks like a masterpiece in the makin! If you keep it, have fun, fun, fun. Greetings and salutations from central Washington. You've come to the best forum around. Lots to read, learn and enjoy. Go forth and ride. Geezer
Welcome from Falls Church, VA! Here in the "welcome" section you'll not get many direct answers. There's just to much variety here. Check out the other categories and try to find something (I think there's a classic section). I'm sure you'll get exactly what you need there.
In the meantime, there looks like a ton of potential with the bike. Owning a classic (or antique?) gives you some bragging rights. Good luck.
Oh Man.... I can still recall my first Harley. I too am still new to this fourm, but I have found it quite the place for answers. FL would denote a touring bike. I think electric start was offered in 66. You say that it is a kick start only...but a bike of that age...the starter could of been removed, or the bike modifide is some way. CH if I recall stands for Competition Hot. That was a sportster. By the look of your pics...you seen to have a sportster on your hands. If the info that I have is right...there were just over 4,000 sportsters made that year. it is a 900cc iron head. Check the numbers on your bike. There was limited production of sportsters made that year. XL1000 was the model. If you had a rare bike, you may want to think twice about your project rat bike. What ever you do with your ride, enjoy it!
Welcome to the fourm from Mobtown...

Welcome. Your bike reminds me of my buddy's. I give him all the credit in the world for riding it. Hard tail, foot clutch, suicide shifter, and kicker only. Awesome ride, but quite a handful. Have fun with it man!! Keep it old school.
