First off i'm Michael and i'm very new both to this forum as well as the world of Harleys. I am looking for my first bike i'm 28 an Army combat vet 6 3 265. I'm wanting to buy a beater and fix it up into an army style custom bike over time. I'm thinking fatboy? I will be working on it myself along with some friends at times. What i need is where to find a bike in my budget 2 to 3k initial investment that looks bad enough but runs good enough to be worth fixing up. I could go up to 4k possibly. I see theft bikes and waterdamaged/flood these sites look fake/scam or just rip offs i'm not gonna pay for something when i'm trying to buy from someone doesn't sound right. I live somewhat by Salem Oregon and am willing to drive to check something or figure something else out. I'm not interested in sportsters or choppers. Suggestions. Thanks.
Second, it's going to be tough to find a Fat Boy in your price range. If you do it might be wrecked or a beater. My suggestion is to start looking at craigslist, here on the forum or local papers. Maybe you'll get lucky and find someone that needs cash quickly.
Ditto. 4K for a fatboy might be tough in any condition. Try ebay also. There are some salvage places that sell there. At any rate, sounds like a fun project. Good luck, enjoy and welcome to the crowd from sunny New Mexico.
