Default Crossbone rear wheel on 07 Night Train

Has anyone done this before?

I have a 2007 Night train and I just bought a 2008 crossbone rear wheel.

The 2007 night train has a 3/4 rear axle and the crossbone has 25mm bearings...It's not just about changing out the bearings, there are spacing issues.

Any help is much appreciated!

Your Crossbones wheel is 17" x 6" and your Night-train is the same size, so other than swapping bearings from 25mm to 3/4" I reckon they should swap. You can run a tape measure through the bearings, to measure the installed width of both wheels. If they are the same you should be fine IMHO.

The spacing issues arises because that crossbone wheel is machined for the thinner 25mm ID x 15mm Wide bearings. You need to get to 3/4", They are almost all (clarification in #1 below) 21mm wide. Your Options are:

1. Buy "Special" 3/4" ID x 15mm bearings at a high price from a guy on ebay that had them made.

2. Install the wider 3/4" x 21mm wide brg (they'll probably protrude slightly) and cut down your spacers accordingly.

3. Install New or leave Existing 25mm ID bearings, install 25mm OD x 3/4" Reducer Bushings and cut down your spacers accordingly to accommodate the reducer flange thickness.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the info

If I go with option #1 and buy a "special" bearing off of ebay will this eliminate the need to cut down spacers? Will I just be able to use the OEM spacers from the 2007 Night Train?

Only if the relative dimensions "A" and "B" are same between each wheel (using a front wheel as example, but it doesn't matter except that the primary side on the rear is now the RIGHT Side. That's why I flipped the image). If not, changes to the spacers will have to be made. You are changing wheels and bearings, that's why it can be an issue. They may look close, but when measured...are not close enough (for me anyway). Measure both wheels with the bearings still installed...compare. That 08 wheel will have the same dimensions after the "Special" bearings are installed. If new spacers are needed anyways, then you might think about going with one of other options. I haven't looked at your exact situation, but I've have found that when harley went to 25mm on a particular model, the edge Plane of the bearings are not in the exact same spot relative to the wheel and rotor mounting surface.
