Default Harley Profile Wheel - Tubeless or Not?

To be more specific...I'm talking about part number 44606-08 (rear) and part number 44605-08 (front) for touring motorcycles. I called a few dealers and one did not have an answer, the other said he thinks they are tubed . The HD parts finder list does not have any specs on the Profile wheel. I believe HD started offering a tubeless spoke wheel but I can't seem to tell whether these part numbers are them. I know there are other part numbers for the '09 and later touring bikes but I am looking for a set for '08 and earlier.

Was hoping some of you out there can clarify this for me so I can make an informed decision. Thanks for you help.

It looks like they are Tube Type...NOT Tubeless

You quote #'s, but can you see them? You can tell by just looking at them (If the tires are removed or if you can see the Rim Size stamping)

You can check if those rims use tubes or not by using an on-line parts website. #44606-08 was used on the RKC and is shown as using a tube. For clarity, most modern tubeless tyres can also be used with a tube.

I can see only the pictures they provided...the rear one has the wheel size stamping on side of wheel. The front seems to not have any stamping and actually has a inner rubber wheel band the covers the entire inner wheel from bead to bead. No picture that shows whether the rear has the same type of band

That's it...the Band.

If the band is gone and the pic is good enough to see, the rim beads are different than the tube-type beads to accommodate the band.

It also should say "Tubeless" along with the rim sizing.

That being said, I don't believe the #'s you stated are tubeless, so maybe they got their #'s wrong on the front

Do you have a link to the rims?

Both wheels are separate ebay sales...I'm having an issue with my current rear wheel and was looking to make a change to tubeless laced:

Rear: http://www.ebay.com/itm/332176793083...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

front:http://www.ebay.com/itm/352034960266...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

The band shown in the picture for the front wheel lead me to believe this wheel is tubeless.

OK, so the Front appears to "Tubeless" and with 25mm bearings and their accompanying bearing bore depths. If it's for your 2008, that should work out fine.

The Rear doesn't look to be tubeless. What you'll probably have to do is get a later rear, but from a 16x3 Softail (or maybe even another Touring front) with the Tubeless rim and then get a earlier 2002-08 16x3 rear hub (or complete wheel for the hub) and then swap the hubs. Can't use the Softail hub because it's wider on the later models that have tubeless rims

Just to follow up on a particular point...

I checked some #'s and it looks like (as I suspected) that the 16x3 "PROFILE" front Rim and Spokes are the same as used on the 16x3 rear.

I would keep an eye out for another Tubeless "Front" and just swap the hub for an earlier Rear hub. Of course it would need to be "Laced and Trued".

Since you have a 2008 with 25mm ID x 15mm wide bearings, you have a few Donors to pick the Hub from... Touring, Sportster, Dyna that originally came with 1" or 25mm bearings.

Post up any possible candidates in the future and I'll give you a "Yay or Nay"
