road trip tire repair concerns

With my previous bike, I carried tire irons, spare tubes and liners on long trips in the event of a road side repair or worse case, having the correct size tubes for a shop to use. My irons are substantial, but can't break the bead on my 95 FLSTN- big disappointment.
My insurance covers towing, repairs, displaced lodging, etc. and of course, I can break-out the credit card. However, should I still considered carrying spare tubes, liners? Some say just make sure you've got good tires for a long trip, but you can still have a flat.

All feedback appreciated.

For roadside repairs those rear tyres will beat most of us! I used to carry all the stuff you mention, even a small jack, but don't any longer. I haven't had a bike with tubed tyres for many years, partly because of that. It is certainly worth carrying spare tubes, as if you do suffer a puncture you have the crucial parts to get you back on the road, with a minimum of outside assistance.

A plug kit is one thing, but when simple options are out the window, roadside assistance and your CC become the "go to" solution quite rapidly I should think. Alternatively, you're gonna be towing a trailer just for tools.
