Unhappy Rear Caliper Plastic Insulator

I have a 2004 sportster xl1200 c

I confess I did not know one had to remove the rear wheel in order to remove the caliper. So i pulled the plastic insulator (pictured below) in preparation of removing the caliper. However, I do not have the means to remove the rear wheel at this time. Any ideas on how to place this part back without removing the rear wheel? Are my riding days over until I can remove the rear wheel!?
