I am getting ready to order new tires for my 2006 Street Bob. Both front and rear. I have decided to go with the Michelin Commander II. I know the size but there are 2 different type listed.

I don't know the difference other than a price difference.

Here goes:

Michelin Commander II Front Tire 100/90-19 57H
Michelin Commander II Front Tire 100/90B19

Michelin Commander II Rear Tire 160/70-17 73V
Michelin Commander II Rear Tire 160/70B17

What is the difference in the two?

What you are looking at are two different ways of representing tyre sizes and types:

• "100/90-19 57H" tells us that they tyre is 100mm wide with a sidewall that is 90%, with a 19" diameter and load rating of 57 and speed rating of H, meaning it's safe up to 130mph.
  
• "100/90B19" tells us the size is as above and it is a Bias ply construction, but misses much of what the other info gives us. To fill in those gaps it is worth checking the Michelin website (not a dealers), as they should give you full technical details.

You can also check what is on your current tyre sidewalls, or better still in your owners manual. I suspect the first details will be similar to what you currently have. That doesn't mean the other spec tyres are not suitable, but check first, especially if they are cheaper!

Be aware that V speed rated tyres are suitable up to 149mph and often have lighter construction with more grippy treads, so may not last very long.

 

The ones with the 'B' are bias ply, the others are radials...
