Bronze spokes?????

My google skills are failing me and nothing comes up on the forum really.

Anywhere to buy bronze(most likely powder coated as I dont think bronze by itself is strong enough) spokes? Would like minimal down time for my bike, but want to swap the chrome spokes to bronze.

The other option is to just pull my wheels apart, take the spokes to the coater, then re-lace them, but the down time is maybe a week...

If I could buy replacement spokes that are already coated I could get everything done in one day.

You can buy plain steel spokes from Buchanan’s, and then send them out for plating. (Ask them about plating.)

If you’re interested in the tech side of the plating, you can do some Google searches and look for results from finishing.com. (Any input from Ted Mooney is usually sage advice.)

Not sure who can do the plating. Try K C Jones plating, but expect fairly steep minimum ‘lot charges’. Or you might be able to DIY plate them yourself.

Really don’t know if you should or shouldn’t plate the threads of the spokes. Not sure how the plating will affect the threads or the nipples.

Good luck, and be sure to post pictures!

Thanks... Honestly not sure which way I want to go now.

I looked at doing the bronze thing, but after checking out some of the Harley bronze pieces, they just didnt look right on my matte gray bike, so I think I am passing on bronze.

Look into anodizing. Holds up well on wheel parts.
