Default sportster front wheel change

New member and new to harleyss but long time rider, now needing a low seat. Just picked up a coastal cruiser project bike 2008 xl1200c. Have hated tubes since first blow out and crash in the 60s, and want to swap the spoked front wheel with a tubeless tire/rim, preferably one l can use present disk rotor to keep the cost down, any tips/traps suggestions are much appreciated. Also hated the way the skinny tire seems to want to slot into the road cracks, drunk bumps. Counter steering also seemed to require a lot more effort than lm used to, think it would handle better with a smaller, 19” ???, rim with a somewhat wider tire, but that just a guess.
thanks and fair winds.

I also started riding in the 1960s and have spent my time on the roadside repairing punctures. However you are behind the times with your comments on tubes! To start with any tyre you install today will be a tubeless type, as there are few if any tubed-only tyres. In addition materials and tyre design have come on in leaps and bounds and punctures are much less common than when we both started - they also grip a darned sight better. As for counter-steering, just take yourself out for a couple of long days in the saddle and you will adapt. By all means swap to a 19" wheel, just find yourself a secondhand Harley wheel from the same model year.

thanks for responses, decided to start w new tire for 21 so l can start riding it now, spending the $ a rim would cost towards new shocks, Plan will be to locate a rim before tire needs replacment.

Rest of the story..., turned out the wonky handling and tracking was more than a sketchy worn tire and my unfamiliarity with the butt rider position, but was due to a failing wheel bearing.

Decided to replace tire w a stock dunlap, and with the new bearings and fork oil, the bike now tracks much better and goes where l want it to. Counter also steering feels much more natural, and should get better once l get the handle bar angle adjusted to my height.

Plan now if l keep the bike, is to locate a 19” tubeless rim before the rear needs to be replaced, and do both at same time, and use the $ a new rim would cost on better rear shocks.
