I managed to find a brand new (nos) factory HD complete hub for my 85 fxst build. It was originally a 16" but plan to re-lace to a 18" rim. Any recommendations on spokes/rims and where to buy? I talked with Buchanan's Spoke and Rim, talking $356 for the Rim and $132 for the spokes so was looking what else might be out there before I pull the trigger on that kinda price.

sure, you can shop around and maybe find everything setup. try jireh cycles or jp cycles. i picked up an akront 18" rim from jp on a liquidation sale for cheap, about 1/2 of what you posted.
there are many aftermarket sources, nostalgia cycle is another. then there is fleabay.

 

I've been looking for a new rear spoke wheel to replace mine because it's missing 9 spokes out of 40 and I've found 18 inch 60 and 80 spoke wheels for less than that. Not sure if you're looking to do it yourself or if you thought that was cheaper, but I haven't found it cheaper to replace my spokes.

 

Yea I agree, you can buy a complete DNA or Ultima wheel for decently less $. I have a NOS 1985 complete hub and want to build off that, it's a totally custom bike but want to keep a certain amount of the 84/85 OEM looks since it's a two year only bike. Specifically want stainless and USA made also so that affects the price.
