Default 16 inch wheel to 18 inch wheel

Ok so I've been researching pretty hard, reading threads about how big of a wheel you can stuff under your fender without issues or modifying. But the one thing nobody talks about is if the bike is stock height or lowered.

So with that chart that's posted up on here somewhere, I believe for my 05 fxst I can go as big as an 18x4.5 without rubbing anything. I put a 2 inch lowering kit on it but pretty sure it's about 3 inches lower.

Anyone have anything they can share about this? Maybe tire dimensions in inches or maybe you have a 16 or 18 inch wheel and tire you could measure and shine some light on this for me??

Thank you in advance for any info you can provide...

we are running the sportster low rear wheel ...(17 x 4.5) on my wifes 07 Deluxe ... the only issue is ...very tight getting the brake caliber on and off when changing tires ...but the ride is so much better with the bigger wheels ...18 x 3.5 in the front ...

good luck

I also have a 17 x 4.5 rim, in my Glide. As rim width increases, the profile of the tyre reduces, or to put it another way, sidewall is reduced. The result is that rolling diameter doesn't change as much as the larger rim diameter suggests. Many tyre brand websites give diameters, so check your preferred brand. In the case of my bike, a stock 16" rear is 638mm OD, while my 17" is 662mm, or rides about 1/2" higher.
