Tires should be priced like meat at grocery store. Discount for older stuff. And let the manufacture date be known.

 

We get similar questions at frequent intervals. Last time I looked into this I found that my preferred brand Avon recommends a tyre should be installed within 5 years from the manufactured date and replaced when it is seven years old. So in your case and using the same rule you can safely use it for another 5 1/2 years. Check the website for the brand of your 'new' tyre.

 

I wouldn't buy any tire that is older than a couple of years (considering that it has been stored in proper conditions). All things considered - tires are the ones responsible for keeping you on the road and they can be critical factor in many dangerous situations.
