Default Rear wheel

Hi,

I have a Dyna 2006 with spoke wheels. I have removed the rear wheel for tire change. I have removed the tire.

Finding lose spokes I tightened all spokes with a spoke torque wrench. This was not a good idea, and led to that I have to losen all spokes and true the wheel. I am waiting for tools to remove the rear wheel belt pulley and the brake disc to accomplish this. (I already have a trueing stand and I will follow the Harley manual.)

Meantime I wonder about the wheel bearings. On one side I can barely turn the bearing with my fingers, on the other it is more stuck and I cannot move it by hand. Should not these bearing be easily turned? (When on the trueing stand the wheel will not rotate on its bearings.) I wonder if I should replace them. Bike has now 15000 miles on it.

Advice from those with experience are much appreciated

Best Regards
Oak Mountain Rider

"Grab" both bearings (one hand/fingers on each) and rotate both bearings and center spacer sleeve as an assembly ... how does it feel now?

The 2000-2007 bearing is a good design and typically lasts for a very long time (far longer than 15k)

Holding the wheel with my fingers like this, I can feel that the bearings, as well as the inner center, are evenly rotating, but not without a certain resistance. So I wonder if this restance is normal, or should the rotation be more easy, as per the wheel not rotating on the truestand bearings, but on its own.

There will be some resistance because they have grease inside ... If they are smooth otherwise, you should be good to go. The truestand bearings should have nothing but a very light oil, they will rotate easy.

Keep in mind that if you want to replace those 2000-07 bearings, that they are somewhat unique. You can't just go down to a bearing supply house and get them. You'll need to get them directly from Harley or someone who offers bearings for Harley applications ... I recommend the original equipment Harley bearings

You don't have to use the stock bearing. Sealed aftermarket like All Ballz will be mucho better. Bearings should "roll" smoothly, no hitching or excessive drag. They just get worn out and fresh bearings are cheap. A sealed bearing locks out debris and keeps lube trapped inside.

Yeah, don't use All ***** (brand) especially on the 2000-07 bearings. They have decreased in quality since Pivot Works bought them.

Do you have a recommended replacement for the double row bearings, 9267?
My research has basically come up empty.

Bought by Pivot Works? Nope, they weren't. It's still the same. All Ballz is owned by AEM. C&E Group own Pivot Works. AEM and C&E mergered is all that happened. I've used All Ballz forever with 0 issues. They're in my 02 Fat Boy right now.

First, they are not Double Row, never have been. Still recommend the OE bearings for the 9267 at this point (for the 2000-06/07)
