2020 with ABS bearing in wheel removed and replaced with non-ABS (9276) but now the axle sleeve is loose by 1/16-1/8". Both bearings are properly seated. What gives?
I appreciate the response but you've missed the concern. The axle sleeve is the same PN (41900-08) on both an ABS and non-ABS bike. The ABS bearing was removed and replaced with a non-ABS. When doing so it appears that the sleeve is still loose when I believe it is fully seated.
I read up on this in depth last night and it appears that just replacing the ABS bearing with a 9276B non-ABS is not the proper way. Removing both bearings and the sleeve and installing a new non-ABS in the "primary side" or "clutch handle side" first, then sleeve, and then a new bearing on the opposite side is the correct way.
But why? Why is my sleeve no longer in contact with the new bearing? I fully understand that the ABS bearing is wider but seated is seated. If removing and reinstalling new does not do the trick (I think it will) I may opt for putting an ABS bearing back in and shaving down the spacer the 3mm difference.
Hindsight is 20/20 but the ABS bearing was already pulled and non-ABS was put in. Last night I pulled the other side bearing, made sure of the seating on the primary side, and put in another non-ABS (All ***** 2pk). All is good now as I won't have to mill down the spacer and can use the 41901-08 in stock form on both sides.
