front wheel wobble?
 

SO I've been having this problem for a while now. I hit 70mph on the freeway and my front wheel starts wobbling to the point i have to slow down to get it back under control. the CHP cop asshole even said he could see it wobbling before he pulled me over and gave me a speeding tix, O he was on a bike too. The bike has 27k miles on it, I have no idea if the tires were ever changed, the bike was my dad's and he was the second owner. He hardly put any miles on it and it sat unridden for probably yrs at a time, so I'm thinkin maybe the tires need to be balanced or replaced or maybe a front stabilizer, who knows? has anyone had this problem and fixed it? thanks

Laced wheels or cast?

+1 on laced wheels. Any loose spokes on the rear wheel could cause a front end wobble like you describe.

The wheels r cast. Anyone ever have to replace the bolts holding down the horn bracket? They're right under the take. I tried to replace with no success, I think I might need to remove the tank to line up the holes.

A buddy of mine had the exact same issue and he simply replaced and balanced the front tire and [Wholaa] it went away. His front tire had over 17K on it and although it looked great on the outside [threads] it had separated on the inside resulting in that horrible wobble. I guess there is a time limit for how long you leave tires on your back despite how they look from the outside.

Your wheel wight may have even fallen off (mine did) take the wheel off and get it balanced for 10 bucks at the dealer.

Also check the air pressure

Sounds like the tires are OLD (sat unridden for maybe years). Replace the tires! don't waste your time balancing them. Replace them, and if you still have a wobbling problem, you can start checking things like fall-away, alignment....

The only way to find it is to track them all one at a time (or all at once if you don't care which one it is)

1. spokes
2. tire pressure
3. tire condition
4. tire balance
5. fall away test, if necessary tighten star nut or steering bearings
6. check alignment
7. change fork oil
8. check motor mounts (for rubber mounted bikes)

Yyou are absolutely right, but since the tires are obvioulsy very old, I'd still change them first - and then proceed down your list if the wobble persists. Old tires have other problems, like not gripping the pavement well, and should be replaced.

If you're changing the tires anyway, might as well adjust the neck bearings and change the fork oil. The wife's deluxe had a similar problem at a lower speed so I replaced the oil (stock oil looked like used 30W and smelled like a septic tank) and tightened the bearings. Immediate solution!
