Default Changing Bearing Size?

I found a set of wheels I want to purchase, but the front has 3/4" bearings. My FXD has a 1" axle. This might be a silly question, but can the 3/4" bearings be pressed out and replaced with a 1" set?

Depends what year the other wheels are. If they are tapered rollers (up to 1999) they cannot be converted and there are other problems. If they are 2000 on you should be able to change bearings. Harley sells a bearing kit (suitable for new wheels) which comes with the larger diameter spacer you will also need. I recently converted a softail wheel from 3/4" to 1" and also had to machine out the centre of the hub to take the larger diameter spacer, so that is another thing to consider.

I assume we are talking about the '04 FXD? If that is the case, you can make the conversion with the hardware grbrown is recommending provided that the donor wheels were designed to fit the '04 FXD. This kind of conversion, with aftermarket wheels can get tricky, so be sure the donor wheels were designed to fit your FX.

You should also get the service manual as there is a specific procedure for the installation of the wheel bearings and the wheel to insure caliper/rotor alignment. If the wheel is not the right wheel for your '04, you will have problems. Not trying to discourage you from making the conversion, just cautioning you that you need to do the homework before diving in.
