Old School Custom

Custom Harleys are obviously nothing new. From O.G. choppers to the wild barely-bikes of today, the world of motorcycles has almost always been one ripe with artistic expression. But if I was forced to choose a favorite, I'd have to lean toward the old-school style of choppers. And you won't find many finer than this 1950 FL we spotted over at Mecum Auctions.

Period Correct

This might not be an original '70s build, but it's not easy to tell. Because this chopper features all the traditional goodies you'd expect from a period custom. That starts, of course, with a proper Pacho narrow springer front fork that has been extended 12 inches.

Nod to the Old Days

Then, there's that requisite mind-blowing paint job. The mixed graphics lend a truly three-dimensional look, a credit to the artist who laid them down. And fittingly, the tank even sports the script "old school."

All in the Details

The spectacular paint is matched with some truly cool little details, too. Directly below the tank, there's a stainless steel cutout of a rifle that's been adorned with a second amendment coin and mounted via the choke knob.

Two Birds

A recovered king and queen seat accomplishes two tasks on this tasty chopper. It looks mighty comfortable, and perhaps more importantly, it looks badass!

Ready to Rock

The engine on this FL, along with the transmission, was professionally rebuilt by Back Street Cycles in Ironwood, Michigan. A belt drive serves as the primary on this cool old school ride, and a chain is the secondary.

Tasty and Timeless

The primary chain cover sports another cool little detail - a God Bless America coin. Up top, the piece that contains a flag is removable. And a hand-made, chromed sissy bar rounds out the tasteful and timeless package.

Endless Style

Altogether, this old school Panhead chopper is one cool ride, and it always will be. While other trends tend to come and go, this is one design that will never go out of style!
