Boys and their toys

Growing up, Chris Flores was always captivated by lowrider bicycles with their stretched frames, wire wheels, and low-slung riding positions. Working as a paperboy, Chris would save up his funds to purchase bike parts to assemble his very own lowrider bike (which he still owns today). As with many young boys, Chris would eventually graduate to motorcycles, but the same passion and flair for building something unique would remain, as is evident by his custom 2002 Harley Heritage Springer.

From a Friend

The bike here began life as a 2002 FLSTS Heritage Springer that was designed by Harley-Davidson as a tribute to bikes of the 1940's, particularly the '48 Panhead. Chris purchased the motorcycle from his friend, Octavio, who had already begun customizing the bike, but unfortunately became ill and was unable to finish it. Chris took it upon himself to see that the bike would be properly completed.

Sweeping Lines

The first area Chris focused on was getting the body in order. The bike came with a stretched fuel tank, but Chris opted to go back to the original unit as it would flow better with the stretched fenders he planned to install. Chris turned to his friend Carlos Serna to stretch the front fender 7 inches and the rear 9 inches. To top it off, all items were finished in a two-tone color scheme with Fiat pastel green and beige-white to give a classy look.

Upon Closer Inspection

The devil is in the details with any custom build. While the 80-spoke American cross-laced wire wheels (21"F/16"R) with Avon Cobra whitewall tires definitely grab your attention, a closer inspection reveals a number of neat features that Chris decided to incorporate. These include custom engraving on the motor, housings, and visors by Krazy Kutting. The upholstered seat has engraved inlays by 3 Angels Upholstery, and there are various other shaved & smoothed surfaces.

Livin the Low Life

The engine is a modified 93 cubic-inch Evo with various chrome Kuryaken dress-up bits. Samson headers with extended fishtail pipes further compliment the lowrider stance. To drop the bike as low as possible, Chris added a set of solid struts to the rear to keep the ride height fixed to eliminate the worry of bottoming out. Up front, the original chrome springer fork is highlighted in all of its glory giving a classic throwback appearance.

From Vision to Reality

Chris explains that the bike was not built as a showpiece, but something suited to his tastes that he could enjoy. As with his first lowrider bike, Chris had a vision, and with time and effort, he brought that vision to a reality. With Octavio on the road to recovery, it's possible he and Chris may soon be building another bike to allow them to cruise in style together. In any case, it is clear that Chris' hard work has definitely paid off.
