All in the Family

Jesse Hernandez was born and raised into the lowriding lifestyle as his family members, specifically, his father and uncles were heavily involved in modifying various Harley-Davidsons and GM G-body cars in the '60's and throughout the '70s. Surrounded by custom projects, Jesse knew from a young age that it would only be a matter of time before he had a project he could call his own. Jesse's custom lowrider project would eventually arrive via a 2006 Harley Softail Deluxe, but his life would take an important turn before the project even began.

Military Service

After graduating high school, Jesse put his plans to build a bike on hold as his immediate interest was to join the US Marine Corps and serve his country. Jesse would put in 16 years and four combat tours as a Marine, but when he finally hung up his boots, he picked up a 2006 Harley Deluxe to begin the lowrider project that he had always dreamed of.

Droppin' it down

Jesse began with some of the basics like adding stretched fenders courtesy of Dirty Bird Concepts and lowering the forks two inches. Setting up the stance of the bike is critical in any lowrider build, so Jesse opted for an air suspension system for the rear of the bike that would allow the bike to sit on the ground while parked, but also have enough travel when riding. With the suspension sorted, Jesse added in a set of diamond-cut wire wheels measuring 23" in the front and 16" in the rear.

Custom Throughout

Loads of other modifications would ensue on "Suavecito" such as the Carlini ape hanger handlebars, custom Pioneer stereo setup, a Samson true dual exhaust system with extended fishtail tips, a set of Cycle Smith's Banana floorboards, and upgraded Daymaker LED headlamps/fog lights.

The Finer Details

There is also a ton of attention to detail going on in Jesse's bike in the form of engravings. From afar the bike may look decked out in chrome, but a closer inspection reveals various leaf and vine garnishment engravings in a number of hard parts such as; the headlight bezels, fishtail tips, primary cover, air cleaner housing, ignition cover, dash, and fender struts to name a few.

A sea of blues

Jesse handed the bike off to Alex of Modern Arte to lay down the intricate blue paint scheme. The paint is said to be silver flake-based with multiple candy coatings (Blue Jean, Oriental Blue, and go) applied over the top to provide extraordinary depth and give a layered effect. After applying the fingerprint effects, pinstriping, and color fade, the paint was sealed with a whopping 10 gallons of Matrix clear coat.

Time to Cruise

In a project that took nearly 16 months, Jesse finally created the lowrider that he had waited years to build. A huge thanks go out to Jesse and other service members alike for risking their lives in order to protect the liberties and freedoms of our country. Now Jesse can enjoy his retirement from serving our great country by cruising on his eye-catching lowriding Harley.
