2014 Harley Street Glide Build is a Mean Green Machine

The hottest ride in town is this green metal flake 'big-wheel' Bagger.

Hot List

Josh Rundlett gets it right when comes to building custom bikes. As he explained in a 2018 Hot Bike video interview about the 'Invited Builder' category, “I've been fortunate enough to be invited back three times in a row.” This tricked-out 2014 Street Glide should keep him on the next Hot Bike Tour guest list.

Industrial Air

The 103 cubic-inch Twin Cam engine is mostly stock. A little bump towards the redline was added with a pair of S&S 585 cams. Smoothing out the airflow is a set of ported and polished heads. A chrome Arlen Ness Big Sucker air cleaner delivers the filtered air. Adding an industrial touch, a stainless steel FAB28 Industries 2-into-1 exhaust handles the expulsion of dirty air.

Green Performer

Rundlett's favorite part of the build is the paint — and rightly so. The Street Glide is soaked in metal flake, flowing panels, and pinstriping. The 'glitz' is knocked back a bit by the black powder coated crankcases, which serve to remind us about the practical side. While the paint reflects the style of a 'big-wheel' Bagger, it was always his intention to have a “performing motorcycle.”

Inner Child

The stock Street Glide fairing was not spared the 'green graphic' treatment. It makes one wonder about the inspiration. Marx Toys released the three-wheel, skid-steer 'Green Machine' in 1977. It was an instant hit. The tricycle was pitched as “The hottest ride in town. A mean machine, for guys 8-10 year-olds who really know how to ride.” Seems nothing much has changed with Rundlett's ride — apart from the age requirement.

Monkey Business

A set of Paul Yaffe Monkey Bagger Bars sits behind the factory fairing. Often mimicked, but never duplicated, Yaffe's bars are well-known in the Bagger community. The company proudly states that “All our customers RAVE about how comfortable our Monkey Bars are...” The stock Harley-Davidson gauges are tagged with the Rundlett Performance & Machine logo to make them stand out.

Wheel Look

Getting the 'big-wheel' custom Bagger look was a requirement of the build. Instead of modifying the frame, Rundlett added Hawg Halters Inc. thirty-five degree triple trees, making room for the twenty-six-inch contrast-cut Colorado Custom billet front wheel. A Misfit Industries Streamline Front Fender is perched above a Metzeler tire, flanked by Colorado Custom rotors with stock Harley-Davidson calipers. Joker Machine MX-style foot boards round out the package.

Custom Function

With function over form in mind, Rundlett chose not to run extended bags. As he reflected, “you won’t be dragging the bags over every bump in the road.” A Bad Dad rear fender and customized bags incorporate flush-mounted Custom Dynamics signal and brake lights for a clean look. Ride height is courtesy of Legend Air Ride shocks, and creature comforts are provided by a Bitchin’ Rich seat.

Envy Green

Rundlett's Street Glide is a blend of good looks and functionality that stayed on budget. As he states, “I'm a one-man-band in my shop.” A Harley-Davidson technician for over twenty years, he opened Rundlett Performance & Machine a few years ago. Ever modest, Rundlett says he likes it when his customers feel proud because he is involved with projects like the Hot Bike Tour.
