1. Harley Found in Lake

This Harley met its ill-fate at the bottom of Hunting Creek Lake in Maryland. It was reported stolen by its owner back in April, so it's up for investigation how long the bike was actually submerged. Due to the lake water being 8 to 9 feet lower than normal, a park visitor noticed the bike and called the authorities. We'll never really know why it was driven into the lake; I'm left wondering why the thief wouldn't opt to sell it instead!

2. Motorcycle Chase

A 19-year-old named Justin Jackson of Rockland, Maine broke into a Harley-Davidson dealership in Coralville earlier this month and stole a Harley worth $8,000. Wearing a mask, he proceeded to lead the police on a 25-mile chase, reaching 100 mph in 50-mph zones, before eventually stopping to surrender. If convicted of second-degree theft and third-degree burglary, Jackson could receive 14 years in prison.

3. Stolen Harley

Back in 2015, a deadly shooting between biker gangs at a restaurant in Waco, Texas devastated the community. A few weeks ago, a man named Trey Alston Short, who had been indicted for his involvement in the shooting, died after eluding police on a stolen Harley-Davidson. Police attempted to pull him over randomly one night, but when he sped up to avoid them, he crashed into a minivan, which flipped over. No one in the minivan was seriously injured. Police discovered the bike was stolen a few months prior and had a fake license plate.

4. Thieves at Large

Earlier this month, police officers in Odessa, Missouri responded to a burglary in process at a home. The two men burglarizing the house fled in separate directions, one in a car and the other on a Harley taken from the house. The two men took several guns from the house and are still at large, as neither of them were caught in the pursuit, even after the man in the car crashed and fled on foot!

5. Harley Goods Gone Bad

Last July, a 37-year-old man named Douglas Castle got caught for stealing $353,000 dollars worth of Harley merchandise over a period of 18 months. Castle was employed at a logistics company that had many clients, one being Harley-Davidson, whose shipments he routed to be delivered to his home address instead. Among the stolen goods was H-D brand jewelry, clothing, and motorcycle parts that Castle sold on eBay. He was sentenced to a year and a day in federal prison.

6. It Runs in the Family

Between January and March of last year, 25-year-old Omar Chaouk of Melbourne, Australia went on a drug-fueled crime spree during which he stole two cars and a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He pulled off the multiple thefts by leading the owners on to believe that he was interested in buying them, and then distracting the owners while driving off. If Chaouk's last name sounds familiar, that's because he's the son of crime boss Macchour Chaouk who was murdered in 2010. This detail is just the tip of the crazy iceberg that is this story, which also involves Chaouk accidentally shooting himself in the groin prior to being arrested for owning an illegal firearm!

7. Employee Embezzlement

A former employee at Harley-Davidson, who was fired in 2014, is being investigated over evidence showing that she embezzled $164,000 dollars from Harley using their Tuition Assistance Program. She would enroll in classes, then cancel her enrollment and keep the refunded payment, successfully pocketing thousands of dollars over a period of a few years starting in 2011. She hasn't been charged with a crime as of yet, but a search warrant has implicated her wrongdoing and Milwaukee police will likely present the case for charges soon.
