7 Reasons Moab, Utah is the Ultimate Vacation Tour Destination
Riding your Harley-Davidson cross country to really see America is a great experience, and one of the best destination to head toward is Moab, Utah. The ride to Moab, from anywhere in the country is beautiful, and there is plenty to do when you get there
Colorado River
You just rode across a good portion of America, taking in the beauty of some of the greatest places in the country. In Moab, you can give your bike a rest and do some sightseeing by Jeep, mountain bike, river raft, or just your own two fee. The scenery in every direction is spectacular, and the Colorado River flows right by. Depending on your taste for adventure, you can have a calm afternoon of floating, swimming, or fishing, or the excitement of shooting the rapids. Any number of tour companies are waiting to show you a good time.
Cataract Canyon
White water rafting in Cataract Canyon is a great choice if you are only staying in Moab briefly and have a single day to do it all. If you have more than a day, there is a great campground in Canyonlands National Park. On the calm sections of the river there are easy sandy beaches to relax on, and take in the wilderness, sun and air. Take a hike and you can explore Native American artifacts and ruins nearby too.
Westwater Canyon
Oh - you say you want to raft for two days? How about an overnight river trip in the unusual Westwater Canyon, which will take you to the very heart of the western American Wilderness. Depending on the time of year and snow runoff, this can go from a exciting and fun trip, to a seriously challenging voyage through twelve big-boy rapids! Tag-a-long Expeditions can take you on this and many other adventures in the area.
Jeeping Tours
So you realize you really only have a day, but you want to squeeze as much in to that day as you can while you're there. One of the cool things Tag-a-long will do for you is a half day Jeep tour (through areas no sane person would ride a Harley), plus a jet boat tour of areas of the canyon with no roads at all. Or, it you prefer the lazy river to the jet setting style, they have that option too, as you swim, raft, and splash through 6 miles of scenic river.
Mountain Biking Canyonlands National Park
It was Jeeping, and then mountain bikers who but Moab on the map as a vacation destination, and you can find a company to take you on tour either way. If you prefer to get off your Harley and onto a pedal bike, Rim Tours have plenty of mountain biking options through rough technical terrain, or on fairly flat Jeep trails. One of the best places to go for this in Canyonlands National Park.
Grand Staircase/Escalante National Monument
This area, that most tourists have never seen, lies in the 1.7 million acres of the Grand Staircase/Escalante National Monument. There are "slot" canyons naturally sculpted by centuries of cutting by the winds and water erosion. Sure, you can dedicate yourself to a weeks long hiking excursion, or book a tour that includes a jeep ride in, and small scenic plane ride out.
San Rafael Swell
The San Rafael Swell is in another remote, seldom visited area, making it perfect for the person who truly seeks to commune with the natural habitat on an authentic wilderness adventure. Embark on this short expedition through the slot canyons, to see thousand years old Native American painting and ruins, and camp in the wilderness. After a few days motorcycle ride, and a few more days of unspoiled wilderness, going back to work might take a real effort.
