7 Ways to Live the Biker Lifestyle

The phrase "live to ride and ride to live" is pretty much the ideology of one who lives the biker lifestyle.

1. Rain or Shine, All The Time

To many, riding a motorcycle is not just part of life, but it is what makes life worth living. For that reason alone, any individual truly living the biker lifestyle uses a bike as their means of transportation. Whether the sun is shining bright or the rain is pouring down, these folks are always on two-wheels. The joy and freedom of riding a motorcycle trumps whatever mother nature can dish out.

2. Open Road Freedom

For most of us, it is safe to say we are tied down in someway, shape, or form. Whether it be our jobs, family, or financial situation, we are unable to up and leave at a moment's notice. An individual living the biker lifestyle has been considered in many circles to be somewhat of a migrant, or vagabond of sorts that can travel from place to place on their bike without staying anywhere too long. Having the freedom to hit the open road on two-wheels without much of a concern of how long they are gone or where they may end up is part of the attraction of living the biker way.

3. Turning Wrenches

Another attribute of an individual living the biker lifestyle is that they have the ability to work on their bike when needed and enjoy doing so. When riding anywhere and everywhere possible on a motorcycle, mileage and subsequent wear as well as tear are going to accumulate, thus requiring maintenance. Lifestyle bikers will have a comprehensive knowledge of the inner workings of their bike to allow them to tackle just about any problem area on their cycle. These folks take pride in fixing their bikes themselves and laugh at the thought of letting a shop lay hands on their precious baby.

4. The Bike Comes First

In order to live up to the "live to ride, ride to live" montra, your motorcycle's needs must be met and often takes precedence over everything else. If you're the type of person who focuses on spending the last of your savings on the next round of mods for your bike instead of using the funds to buy a hot meal, chances are the biker lifestyle is right for you. Simply put, the bike is the number one priority in life, and would be claimed as a dependent on a W-4 tax form if allowed.

5. Topic of Conversation

If motorcycling is your true love, it will regularly be a topic of conversation among fellow bikers, friends, and even the occasional stranger. It may include small talk about where you are going or what kind of bike you are riding; however, when around like-minded enthusiasts, things will get deep when reminiscing about that cross-country ride or what you learned when rebuilding dad's old knucklehead. Needless to say, to live the biker lifestyle, you will inevitably be an aficionado, lover, and admirer of motorcycles.

6. Motorcycling Community

Living the biker lifestyle involves embracing the motorcycling community. While one of these bikers may not officially be part of any single group or club, they value the friendship and comradery shared among other motorcyclists. Joining along for a toy run, barbecue, or even just chewing the fat for a few minutes at a local bike night (see topic of conversation) are all enjoyable activities when motorcycles are involved. When on the road, fellow motorcyclists can act as an extended family, which is appreciated by anyone who has spent any significant amount of time on the road with their bike.

7. Passion

Last but not least, one word that can encapsulate the biker lifestyle is passion. Each and every person will have varying criteria as to whether or not someone is truly living the biker lifestyle, but suffice it to say, a strong passion for two-wheels is the underlying element for all who love motorcycles. Sure, motorcycles can be expensive, require regular maintenance, and take time/effort/dedication from their owners, but in return provide a sense of freedom, community, and an overall experience that is second to none. So whether you have only an attribute or two of the biker lifestyle, or "ride to live and live to ride," your passion and incredibly strong emotion for bikes are what keep the two-wheeled world going round.
