1. From Breast, to Bike, to Baby

In the case of the moms and dads that are receiving donated breast milk delivered by the Sirens MC in New York and the surrounding areas, it is all about the destination.  For parents who are not able to provide their own milk, the pasteurized donated breast milk is critical for the care of premature or ill babies.

2. Rolling on Time

Time is of the essence in some cases. Typically, the milk is delivered through the mail. Using these women and their motorcycles, they are able to cut down on the delivery time and cost.  These women are creating a sense of hope for these parents and help to take away some of the worries about how to get the breast milk.

3. Coming Together

According to the Sirens MC website, they were established in 1986 and are the oldest and largest women's motorcycle club in New York City.  There was no question for Julie Bouchet-Horwitz to ask Jan Baquial, the President of the Sirens if she and the group would team up with her and the New York Milk Bank (NYMB) in efforts to deliver breast milk more efficiently out to the community.

4. Angels on Two Wheels

Bouchet-Horwitz opened the bank in September and has been able to dispense over 30,000 ounces of screened and pasteurized milk back in the community.  As opposed to the conventional courier pickups, there are times when two wheels are more effective and less costly. These women pull up at the loading dock, get their delivery assignments, and basically, help make miracles happen.  Their recipients see them as angels. The Sirens remain humble and see their acts as women helping women, a group coming together to give back to the community all while doing what they love to do.

5. Live the Lifestyle in Your Community

Two wheels give riders a new outlook on life:  it becomes a lifestyle. The Sirens MC are taking that journey, that lifestyle, a bit further by sharing the ride with the community.  To the families of these babies that need this milk as a lifeline, the journey these women take directly impact the destination of their babies. We should all be inspired and keep in mind that the perspectives are all different but the focus remains the same:  empower those around you, do what you love and find a way to do them simultaneously.
