Slice of Sportster Heaven

Say what you want about the Sportster, but it's easily one of the most important motorcycles Harley has ever built. And it's also one of the most popular bikes to modify, no matter which part of the globe you reside on. But if you're looking for a wholly unique Sportster build, look no further than this amazing machine from Australia’s Gasoline Motor Co., which recently graced the virtual pages of Bike EXIF.

Moving on Up

Flat track racing is nothing new, of course, but it's arguably never been hotter than it is now. Plus, the guys at Gasoline are rather avid fans of the sport. They cut their teeth on a KTM 450, but the appeal of a bigger, V-Twin powered ride couldn't be denied. “Learning the ropes of sliding at high speed on the dirt soon turned into a need to practice on a heavier Harley XR1200X,” said founder Jason Leppa.

Tracking Straight and True

Thus, they cooked up a concoction capable of dominating not just the dirt, but the streets as well. A 2000 model Sportster provided the canvas for what would become the bike Gasoline now calls "XX Tracker." But you might not be able to tell based on what it looks like today.

Add Lightness

The first thing Gasoline did, of course, was remove everything they didn't need on the bike in an effort to save weight. A classy black and white color scheme provide a nice contrast, while a fiberglass tank and tail further lighten things up.

Making it Fit

A set of 19-inch wheels were sourced from an early Sportster, then powder coated and wrapped in dirt track specific rubber. Triple clamps were custom built to fit the new front wheel, while spacers were used in the back.

Hopped Up

The internals of the Sportster's V-Twin are stock, but external mods include an S&S Super E carb and Slant air filter. The massive exhaust both pumps out some incredible sound and extracts more performance for the track.

Subtle but Effective

Loads of other, more subtle mods help make this Sportster fit for track duty. They include modified controls, 1-inch bars, a new throttle and grips with mini switches, and a whole lot more. The result is a ride worthy of both pavement and dirt, and easily one of the most unique Sportsters we've ever laid eyes on!
