Way back in the early days of motorized transportation, Harley-Davidsons were favored for quick response work. In 1906, especially out west, the road even in medium sized cities were a combination of dirt and mud, with horses and buggies making everything worse. Forward thinking Chief of the M.F.D. Kirby had no problem responding to calls.

2. 1930s Harley-Davidson Fire Department Servi-Car

Much of the United States didn't have great roads before WWII, and getting to a fire could be hard. Harley Davidson made many 3 wheeled Servi-Car models which were used by fire departments to quickly get men and equipment to the scene. Fire spreads quickly, and every second can count, so getting men to asses the situation there before the pumper and ladder trucks was a big help.

3. Post-War Servi-Car

Firefighters found plenty of uses for this Servi-Car after the war as well from helping to put out fires to transporting personnel. These three wheeled cargo machines were very popular on military bases, at airports, and along the water front, where there was a lot of ground to cover and patrol. A man responding with an extinguisher in minutes could mean the difference between disaster or just another day on the job, especially around volatile chemicals.

4. Florida Rapid Response Bikes

Florida is Harley country, and Fort Walton Beach in the past few years has put some of their EMTs on Electra GLides in order to allow them to respond quicker. The motorcycles are part of the new Rapid Incident Deployment and Emergency Response initiative, or RIDER Team. You can read more about them here.
