1. Pacific Coast Highway

As any experienced rider will tell you, it's a good thing to start your riding treks out small. However, small doesn't necessarily mean lesser, as the Pacific Coast Highway of California is sure to prove. Cutting through the famous Napa Valley, there's an impressive variety of natural sights along the way to look at. If you're looking for ride destinations, it shouldn't be hard to find something that ties in with any hobby. The joy of riding can only really be experienced in the countryside, but San Francisco has got a great biker culture and plenty more to offer, provided you're not averse to riding up and down hills. A lot.

2. The Pacific Northwest

A great thing about travelling through the Pacific Northwest is that you can do it at your own pace. It arguably boasts the most amenable climate in all of North America, and the ample tree coverage can help protect you from the sun's rays. Picturesque locales like Snoqualmie Falls (incidentally the place where outdoor scenes from the show Twin Peaks were filmed) are a joy to discover. There are tons of lakes and forested routes to check out, and lovers of the outdoors will find countless places to camp out when they're done riding for the day.

3. Death Valley

Running between Nevada and California, the arid Death Valley has an unforgiving atmosphere that makes good on its foreboding name. All things considered, the American Southwest isn't the friendliest region, with every other thing put there by nature seemingly trying to kill you, including the weather. However, it is this rugged sense of danger that makes Death Valley so much damn fun to ride. It's definitely not a trip you'll want to take for your first ride, but many bikers find themselves drawn back the this desert landscape time and again. Just keep in mind that your creature comforts could be at odds with the experience. Don't be surprised if you find yourself baking in your jacket under the desert sun. The extreme heat and unforgiving landscape are the very source of the discomfort and challenge that is a large part of Death Valley's allure in biker culture. As a welcome bonus, with biker cafes and hot spots all along the route, you should expect to make at least a few Harley-Davidson loving friends.

4. Trans-Canada Highway

Ever fancy taking a long ride up north? The Trans-Canada Highway is one of the longest roads in the world, and there's a good chance it could be the most all-encompassing motorcycle trek in existence. The highway cuts a route from one end of the North American continent to the other. Besides the epic distance, the Trans-Can is incredible for the range of sights. On the East Coast, there's a tight concentration of regional cultures and natural sights in the maritimes, while from Manitoba to Alberta are long stretches of open prairie. By the time you get to the Rocky Mountains and British Columbia, the road begins to wind and turn, but the forests and rock formations are some of the most beautiful you'll ever see. If you want some bonus riding once you get to Vancouver, take the BC Ferry across to Vancouver Island to reach "Mile Zero" of the highway in Victoria.

5. Morocco

Have you ever considered a ride on another continent? The world is a Harley owner's oyster so to speak, and few places will leave as much of an impact as the Moroccan desert in North Africa. Sand dunes and weather beaten mule trails will make you feel like a bona fide adventurer. You can even tie this in with a European ride by taking the boat across from Spain. On the other hand, if the dunes of Morocco are too far away for you, the deserts of northwest Mexico may be a suitably alternative. With that said, there's nothing quite like taking your bike across the ocean to see what's on the other side.
