Police Training and Skill Competition 2017 (Photos)

You might think that cop on a Harley touring bike is a joke, cruising along slowly and writing parking tickets. But, if you ever saw the skill with which most of these motor officers ride you would change your mind about them and their bikes. 1. Easy Does It

This 7th Annual Spring Classic in Grand Prairie Texas was fun to watch. The Go-Slow contest uses the stop and go method for success, creeping along using the clutch to baby these beast around cones as slowly as possible. Sporadically the rider would turn the front wheel back and forth, to maintain balance. Riders get two chances to ride for free, and two more tries they can buy for charity. Officers were eager to pass on techniques to others for success in this event. You can watch them go slow here.

2. Breaking Up is Hard to Do

Two riders tethered together sounds like a recipe for disaster, especially when negotiating a series of 360 degree turns and racing against the clock. But, police are used to working together in tight quarters. This event demonstrates their uniformity of training, and like minded thinking. You will hear riders talking to each other during the turns to help coordinate. As you might suspect, riders also stayed in first gear throughout. Watch this precision riding here.

3. Controlled Chaos

This group event got the crowd the most excited of all. Kickstands are taken off to get real low in the turns, and mufflers and foot pegs suffered some serious damage. This flawless demonstration shows the precision and skills necessary to succeed.

4. Dueces Wild

Follow the leader is the name of this game, which is an elimination event where the second rider must do exactly what the lead rider does. If you don't, you're out. Fast-slow, left-right, in-out, going through wild and unpredictable direction changes. Another technique, is to use your slow riding tricks to unsteady your opponent. Check out the video.

5. Mellow Yellow

Everybody was pumped for this high energy contest. Riders complete two runs on two different courses, and  the fastest time wins. These bikes really take a beating during this event, and all the events actually. Lots of stress on the clutch, brakes, and motor, which stays in first gear, not to mention all the banging and scratching. Riders demonstrate their full arsenal of techniques thrilling the crowd. Watch them run on this video.

6. Special Treatment

One of the most unusual sights you will see at an event at this is bikes leaning against the curb or laying on their crash bars. You've never seen so many bikes fall and get back up for more. Battle scars on the mufflers show the bike's maturity. These tough warriors endure lots of punishment, but are well taken care of. Whenever something breaks, it is fixed at the police department's expense, this is a work activity after all. Here's some more amazing footage.

7. Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained

This high level of competition requires accuracy, concentration, strength, skill, courage, and that competitive spirit. These riders are literally the best in the world; one competitor came from Brazil, there was even a Harley enthusiast from Cape Town, South Africa. Sometimes stuff happens, but they just pick it up and keep on going. All in all, a pretty exciting competition and a experience you'll never forget. Watch a rider drop it and keep on going here.
