Clean Touring

On April 30, 2019 Rinehart Racing earned a “landmark endorsement from EPA and CARB.” The North Carolina-based exhaust manufacturer was cleared to make and sell Clean Air Act compliant exhaust systems for Harley-Davidson M8 Touring models. Read the full press release next.

Rinehart Racing, the leading manufacturer of aftermarket exhausts for Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycles, has been issued an Executive Order by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and has met the requirements of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to manufacture and sell a full exhaust system that complies with Clean Air Act regulations.

Rinehart Racing President and CEO, Judd Hollifield was excited to comment, “This is the beginning of a new chapter as we innovate and evolve into a regulatory compliant performance company. Our primary focus has always been to...provide our customers with the performance products that they want. Up until now, that limited riders in California to our emissions compliant slip-on mufflers. Slimline Duals

The company’s forthcoming Slimline Duals system have been certified emissions compliant and will be legal for sale in all fifty states. In an effort to define what qualifies as emissions compliant exhaust products for motorcycles, the EPA has recently announced that aftermarket parts which meet the legal requirements of CARB as replacement parts are also emissions compliant under federal regulation

Test Results

Rinehart Slimline Duals and a selection of other exhaust components qualify as compliant. These systems have undergone extensive testing in an independent emissions laboratory facility which is recognized by the State of California and the EPA. Duals and Slip On

That includes the full Slimline Duals system, the test results affirmatively conclude that installation of 4" Slip-On Mufflers and MotoPro45 Slip-On Mufflers for Touring models, and 4.5" Slip-On Mufflers for the 2018 or later Fat Bob models, which do not tamper with the OEM catalytic converter, qualify as a replacement parts, as defined by CARB.

Model Years

The select Rinehart products are now legal to sell and install in all fifty states in accordance with California state law and US Federal law as prescribed by EPA regulation. The list of applicable Harley-Davidson models is extensive and includes the following: FL Touring Models: 1995-2005 (carbureted), 1995-2017 (fuel injected) except 2006. CVO model year 2000-2005 and 2009-2019. California Touring Models: 1995-2003, 2007, and 2009-2019. California CVO models: 2000-2003, and 2009-2019. Softail Fat Bob model: 2018-2019.
