Better Than Average

By all accounts, the 1988 Harley Sportster 883 was just another evolution of HD's long-running entry-level model. With few changes from previous generations, it marched forward, selling like hotcakes as it always had. But this particular '88 Sportster we found over at Rock Solid Motorsports isn't your average '88 Sportster. Not by a long shot.

Testing, Testing

That's because this particular bike was originally ordered by legendary performance parts maker Screamin' Eagle as a test bike.

1,300cc Heart

By most accounts, this Sportster looks pretty stock and original. But Harley fans will undoubtedly notice that it now packs a 1,300cc heart in place of the original engine.

Serious Build

According to the seller, that engine was sent off to Harley's research and development department for a full-on race build.

Developmental Mule

The engine was also fortified with, of course, tons of Screamin' Eagle parts, many of which were still in development.

Stock Looking

Outside of that, you'd be hard pressed to tell that this bike is anything unique or special. Save for the various Screamin' Eagle scripts spread throughout the bike.

Masked Intentions

Even the original Sportster 883 decals still adorn the gas tank. Which makes this Harley somewhat of a sleeper.

Rowdy Ride

According to the seller, the combination of this beastly engine and the Sportster's lightweight frame makes this bike a rather rowdy ride. And we're guessing that's no exaggeration.

Storyteller

Outside of that, there's not much information provided on this fascinating test mule. But we're betting that it has a lot of cool stories to tell...if the new owner is willing to track them down.

Conversation Piece

The good thing is, these old Sportsters don't command top dollar on the used bike market. And even this special one only carries a price tag of $6,500. So for one lucky buyer, it's sure to make quite the conversation piece!
