Fieldsheer Wind Tour Gloves

When people think about riding safely, the first thing that comes to mind is your helmet. However, there are other things to consider, such as gloves. If you were unfortunate enough to take a spill, your normal instinct would be to thrust your hands, palms down onto the pavement to break your fall. Your hands need a good pair of gloves for protection in this scenario. You will also need gloves when you consider cold, wind and rain that occurs while you’re out riding and can change at a moment’s notice.

So why would you call a glove a “gauntlet”? If you remember the Clint Eastwood film of the same name, Clint armored a city bus with metal shielding to prevent the entire police department from shooting him as he and Sondra Locke approached the steps of City Hall. The principle is the same – protect your hands and your wrists at all costs. Racing gloves are gauntlets for obvious reasons, but many riders want the extra protection from the rain and the winter cold.

The Fieldsheer Wind Tour Gauntlets are available for $42.95.

Icon Pursuit

The most popular season for the average rider to spend a lot of leisure time riding is in the warmer months. Regardless of the lack of protection, you don’t typically see people riding in hot weather wearing full leather jackets, nor do they typically wear a gauntlet-style glove. These are short gloves made for summer riding.

The Icon Pursuit Motorcycle Gloves run about $75.00.

The Roland Sands Design Ace gloves go for about $125.00

Firstgear Heated Rider Gloves

If you live up north (or anywhere it gets really cold) but have no intention of waiting until spring to ride your motorcycle, Firstgear also makes a heated glove. They’re pretty cool (no pun intended) because they are not only cold and waterproof, but they have pre-curved fingers complete with a rubber face shield wiper. You can get either the battery-powered or the plug-in types.

Thor Spectrum Glove

If you ride an Enduro, or enjoy a little off-road excitement, Thor Spectrum gloves might be for you. They offer protection for the top of your hand only, not for your palm because dirt riders need to feel the handlebars, but still want protection on top of their hands. (Not recommended for street use.)

You can pick-up Thor Spectrum Gloves for only $16.95

Tour Master Select Fingerless Gloves

These are the famous style of gloves you see the tough guys wearing in the movies. The fingers are cut out to keep cool in the heat, or just for looks. The Tour Master Select Fingerless Glove has a goatskin lining with a light foam padding. It may offer a little protection for your hands and knuckles, but they are not recommended for the serious rider for street use.

The Tour Master Select Fingerless Glove can be purchased for about $14.95.

Klim Liners

This item looks like a glove, but is in fact not a glove at all. If you don’t want to invest a few hundred bucks or more to have the right glove for any occasion, then here’s a viable alternative – Klim Glove Liners. You can turn your summer gloves into winter gloves quickly by wearing a pair of these under your existing gloves. When it warms up, you can remove them and toss them in your saddlebag. They even fit in your pocket.

You can get a pair of Klim Glove Liners for about $15.99.
