Kernville Kampout

The Frandy Campground in Kernville, California was the setting for yet another Kernville Kampout in 2017 and saw motorcycle enthusiasts countrywide attend. The event took place on October 6-8. For 2017, things were a little different - advance tickets cost $30 but were served on a first-come-first-serve basis as usual. The advance ticket covered you for the whole weekend but, for those only able to attend one night, it was the same price, unfortunately. Although the event is no longer free, there was a lot more on offer for the 2017 event.

Cold Hard Stats

Articles and even pictures can make events like this look better than they actually are. Cold hard stats, however, don't lie. Like the 1,000 plus bikers who turned up and consumed over 480,805 beers during the weekend, not to mention 50 gallons of Sailor Jerry rum. There were three food trucks at the campsite to keep the riders hunger at bay - riding a mechanical bull takes a lot out of you. Two cords of firewood were used throughout the weekend. And everyone was entertained by one fantastic band. If those numbers don't conjure up images of a good time, I don't know what does.

What you get for $30

Although the Kernville Kampout cost $30 this year, as opposed to other years when it was free, attendees still got a bargain. For your $30 you got a patch on the Frandy Campground for Friday and Saturday night. Entertainment-wise, there was an arm-wrestling competition on Friday night, live music Saturday night, and mechanical bull riding Saturday afternoon and evening. There was also as much 805 beer and Sailor Jerry rum & Cokes as you wanted, until the supply ran out, of course. For your fee, you also gained automatic inclusion into the informal bike show. Is that good value for the money? Absolutely.

The Campsite

The event itself and activities on offer are great, but the campsite also adds to the appeal of the Kernville Kampout. There are horseshoe pits dotted around the campsite, as well as fire pits. There is access to the Kern River and plenty of shade for when you need a break from the heat. Although the Kernville Kampout is about bikers getting together, going for rides, and enjoying beers (not at the same time), there is a Wifi hotspot on the grounds for those who need it.

Going Off on Your Own

There are plenty of things to do and see at the campsite, but if you choose to go out and explore, you won't be disappointed. The Trail of 100 Giants is a near the campsite, as is Silver City Ghost Town. Lake Isabella is only a short ride away and a great spot to go fishing. If you're looking for something to get your heart rate up, however, you could go river rafting nearby. Anyone aged 21 and up can attend the Kernville Kampout. If you're planning on attending but not riding or being a pillion on a bike, it could be a bit lonesome during the day when everyone is out on a group ride. With that said, everyone is welcome, regardless of vehicle choice. Although people are asked to leave 'giant' RVs and trailers at home.
