From Taiwan with love

This bike is an official commission from Harley-Davidson Taiwan for an exercise on what's possible when a builder is given free rein. That freedom has resulted in a 2014 Dyna Street Bob that is performance oriented and ready to kick some teeth in. Winston Yeh of Rough Crafts remarked, "The Dyna platform has a good balance between engine power and bike size. Out of all the current Harley model families, it’s also got the best potential for good handling.”

Dropping weight for a faster bike

Once Yeh sat down with the Dyna he began to pick the bike apart starting from a dynamics perspective. A new front end was fitted on with upside-down Kawasaki forks from Satya Kraus. “Satya has been a great friend for several years now,” says Yeh. “And I’ve always loved his Dynamoto Front End kit with Öhlins forks. We’ve fitted a shorter custom version of that kit to improve the stance, and blacked-out Öhlins shocks at the back.”  To reduce weight, Yeh then went with an aluminum swingarm from Roaring Toyz and a BDL open belt drive.

What's that about brake fade?

Common sense tells us that if you're going to upgrade the performance then you would be well minded to upgrade the brakes as well. The rotors are a dark metal composite that was custom made by Lyndall Racing Brakes. Those brakes are hooked up to six-piston calipers from Swedish firm ISR.

More air means more efficiency

With all of the excessive amounts of torque from the Dyna, Yeh sought to upgrade the engine breathing. The 1689 cc motor received an S&S Super G carburetion and a new exhaust from Taiwan's high-end titanium exhaust fabricator. “I’ve known Dog House for years and always wanted to work with him,” says Yeh. “It’s just that our blacked-out, vintage-style bikes haven’t been a good fit for the ‘titanium rainbow’ effect he creates. But now, for this performance-driven bike, it was the perfect time to make a full titanium system. So we sat down together, and came up with a design similar to Rough Crafts’ classic ‘Bomber’ 2-into-1 pipe.”

This thing looks mean as hell

The Dyna received a new narrow custom tank and a tail unit that was inspired by a superbike. The wheels came from Arlen Ness and are 18" in the front and 17" in the back. Finally, the bike was sprayed with finished in almost entirely monochrome with black anodized hard parts offset by semigloss grey paint courtesy of Air Runner. The only parts of this bike that didn't receive the funeral treatment are the titanium exhaust pipework, fork tubes, and brass highlights on the pushrod collars crafted by 2 Abnormal Sides.
