Tim McCreedy's Budget Friendly 2013 Dyna

See what happens when one owner goes to a reputable shop and keeps his mod list focused on substance over style.

Black is cool but drab

Tim McCreedy's 2013 Dyna started life as a nondescript black bike that went through a transformation at Big Al's Cycles in Petaluma, California. Al Raposo, the owner, is the man that has churned out some really cool machines time after time.

Anything is possible with enough cash

Al says that Tim came to the shop and told him that he wanted to take his good bike and make it better, no frills, no excess, but he did want to improve on the drab black paint to help it stand out visually. What happened next was a show of complete faith in Al as Tim dropped the bike off for the team to do whatever they wanted. Well, he left a fat wad of cash, too, in order to finance the project and a picture of an old Chevy truck for inspiration.

Power should always be first

Once Al started to get a game plan for the bike in his head, he set off to work with the engine, which was at the top of his list. The 103-inch motor took a trip over to Engine Dynamics to get a makeover from top to bottom. The 58mm S&S Throttle Body was paired with an air cleaner blowing to a 2 into 1 Thunderheader exhaust. A Rivera Pro Clutch helps push the power to the ground via a Big Al branded chain drive turning matte powder coated Harley-Davidson wheels.

I suspect it was a 1970's van

Now comes the part where that picture of that old Chevy pickup truck comes into play. Taylor Schultz, Big AL's painter, gave the bike a retro paint job that was inspired by the look of the Chevy that Tim was so impressed with. A dynamite job on the exterior on this Dyna is somewhat futuristic while still being dated and cool.

Tell Big Al that Tim sent you

The build took three months and is an example of what can happen when mods are kept reasonable and the paint job is more charming than crass. If you like the work that was done to Tim's bike and are in the Bay Area, then check out Big Al's Cycles yourself. Even if you're not in the area, I'd still recommend clicking on the site and then going to the Bikes section. There you'll see some of the builds that Big Al has done and the attention to detail that he commands.
