Wicked Red October

Whether it’s paint, chrome or a handstitched saddle, every Harley rider wants their machine to be different.  Our bikes are reflections of our unique personalities.  Some of us get our gas tanks illustrated with murals or candy-coated in a metal flake.  Others bolt-on chrome skulls that gleam in the sun to set themselves apart.  A rarer few recreate their stock Hogs with new fabrication or build their rides from the ground up. Harley-Davidson’s Battle of the Kings Custom Bike Build Competition celebrates the rare breed of bike builders that mold machines into new forms.

On June 13, 2019, 42,000 votes were tallied in the United States with 21 American bike builders declared as finalists of the People’s Choice Awards in the Battle of The King’s Competition. The unique element of this bike build competition is the pairing of masters with students.  For the first time since the contest began in 2015, Harley-Davidson has opened up the Battle of the Kings to master builders working together with trade schools across the United States.  This gives students with a passion for motorcycles the life-changing opportunity of working with experienced mechanics and fabricators. The competition then becomes a learning experience likely to resonate with the students and the mentors for years to come.

Split Decision

There can be only one. Entries were made in three separate build categories; Chop, Dirt, and Race.  On June 10, 18 build teams were chosen to move forward to the next round of judging. The top six bikes having been selected as ‘Category Finalists’ in each of their respective classes.  The second round of the contest will announce one winner in each category; Chop, Dirt and, Race.  These final three build teams will go head to head in the third and final round of the competition where the winner is chosen and the "King" is finally crowned in iron, dubbing the victor with the title of ‘Battle of the Kings Champion’ and giving them some serious bragging rights.
