What is “BikeExif”?

In 2008, Chris Hunter founded “BikeExif.” It is a website that features the world’s most popular showcase for motorcycles and gets over a million views every month. Throughout the week, Chris and his team search for the top pick from custom motorcycle builders across the country. They choose from a prime selection of Scramblers, Bobbers and those used in flat-track racing (Trackers).

The world's most popular showcase for custom motorcycles

Motorcycle styling has always been conservative rather than revolutionary. No matter what era of bikes you’re looking at, the engineering may have improved by leaps and bounds but the style tends to fit more neatly in its place along the timeline.

Shaw Speed & Custom - SS&C is the custom workshop of an East Sussex Harley dealer

The bike you see here was the same bike that was featured as the finale of the London International Custom Bike Show – a 2011 Harley-Davidson Sportster. She is called the “XLST3” created by Shaw Speed & Custom. SS&C is the custom workshop of an East Sussex Harley dealer and the team took 1st and 2nd place at the event.

Based on a 2011 Sportster 1200N, the XLST3 has several modifications. Roland Sands Design provided the custom brake rotors as well as the gas tank. The painting was performed by Image Design Custom. Other mods include in-house built exhaust pipes, Ohlins shocks, and titanium nitride forks.

There’s a good chance you’ll see this Sportster at Sturgis

According to Steve Willis, a custom bike builder at Shaw, if you go to Sturgis you’re likely to see the XLST3. His team would like to put her up to win the title at the AMD World Championship this year. They won back in 2010 with the bike they named Strike True II.

Too Shiny

Here are a few of the comments by the fans of BikeExif  concerning the XLST3:

“What a wonderful use for a Harley. Those mufflers just look mean (although I would like them even more if they left out that straight section and just had them go from one taper to the ending one). I think it would look better after being ridden on a dirt track for a few miles. Too shiny.”

“We were at the show and this motorcycle did stand out however it has a hand painted cafe racer scene on the engine guard which you can only see when a mirror is placed under the motorcycle!!!

“They trimmed the bottom 2" off of the gear case cover and the frame cradle is two-tone so the black disappears and the white is the bottom half of the tube. That makes it look even lower. “

“Swing-arm angle, tires, stock Sporty forks, airbrushed inside the rear fender, low ground clearance plus an even lower skid plate, knobbies (so it's not a flat tracker), no ground clearance so it not an off-road bike. So my conclusion was that due to its design ambiguity, its intention is to be a "Custom". Form over function. As I said though, I really, really like a lot of the features on this bike and some of the coolest I've ever seen!

FYI- Knobbies don't transform a cruiser street bike into a "dirt bike".”

Well, there you have it.

Happy Holidays, Friends.

RIDE ON!
